This is part of my collection of short shows for both private and corporate parties. Today we will talk about one of the most magical outlets of artistic expression: sand drawing.
What happens during these shows?
The artist uses sand to draw on a special glass table, not a single picture but an entire storyline complete with astounding transformations. All of this is projected onto a large screen. The show lasts around 15 minutes.
The soundtrack in the background can be recorded music, or sometimes live music with guitars, saxophones and flutes. Whatever they may desire, the customer’s wish shall be granted. Singers can also be involved and sometimes the artist even paints the song.
After the main show the guests are given the option to try the sand drawing themselves and to learn some of the main techniques. If the audience is very large this portion can take a couple of hours.
The show can be saved onto a computer. A disk with the recording will be given to you in a couple of days after the event.
What occasions could use a sand artist?
A wedding of course! All of the romantic presentations I’ve watched were wonderful. The storyline themed around love can be general (which is cheaper) or personally yours. The visages in the sand will look like the newlyweds. Guests will see the moment they saw each other, the flight of cupid’s arrow, happiness and sadness, the proposal and the flight to the stars on the wings of love. The bride and groom can draw the hearts themselves and write their love confessions.
A party for a child. There are many fairy tales with prepared illustrations. You can watch and listen and then try to draw the mountains, clouds and stars in the sand. Plenty of fun to go around. The adults just have to watch everyone gets their turn. If there’s little time announce that only the birthday boy can draw the big picture while everyone else can add things like stars, waves and beams of light.
These shows are always a hit at anniversaries. They can highlight the brightest moments of a person’s life: their childhood, youth, student years, career success, family, children and so on. Definitely order a DVD with the show! It is a fantastic gift.
A corporate party. The sand film can congratulate your colleagues, raise spirits on Christmas, or be the life of the party after a particularly stressful month. After the demonstration is a lesson with a showcase of the employees’ creative works. This often turns out to be fun and exciting.
Technical Requirements
The room must be fairly dark so windows should be covered and lights turned off or dimmed down. If the presentation is on a plasma screen some light is OK but a darker environment is preferable for a standard projector.
3 square meters of open space near a power outlet is required, as well as a stereo setup for the soundtrack. The organizers of the show will bring a 80×60 centimeter table, a camera, tripod, projector, camera, sand and a disc with music. If live music is expected instruments and other necessary equipment will be provided.
I found this amazing sand art: “Peace for kids” – sandy story done by Ukrainian artist Kseniya Simonova

Sand art is very unique and touching and if you saw live performance – you will remember this event forever.
